13 months old

Little man is changing so quickly! I hope to continue documenting his monthly progress so I don't forget these precious little details.
  • Caleb's FIRST (real) word was uh-oh! He mimicked Aunt Beth saying it after he threw his snack on the floor. He has not repeated it since. =)
  • He says Momma and Dadada regularly, but they tend to be part of his regular babbling. I think he knows who we are! Caleb likes to say Momma when he's looking to nurse.
  • His favorite word is up. He holds up his arms to you and says "up." It's SOOO sweet!
  • Caleb is obsessed with containers. He loves to put stuff inside baskets, trash cans etc. and take things out. A few fun things he's tossed - Megablocks in his hamper, cell phone in the trash can, sneaker in the toilet etc. He also made "block soup" by filling my soup pot with his wooden blocks.
  • I've been letting Caleb help me around the house. He likes to put clothes in the dryer, throw (actual) trash away, load the dishwasher, help cook and clean up his toys. It mostly makes things easier because he's involved with the activity, but also takes 10x longer! =)
  • A few other things: Caleb can play ball (roll it back & forth), "talk" on his phone, follow simple directions, stack blocks and knock them down.

That's all I can think of for now! I've been a serious slacker about taking pictures lately, but here are a few from my cell phone.

Roseola

Last Tuesday Caleb came down with a 103° fever. He was extra cuddly and sleepy, but otherwise acting normal. His fever lasted through Thursday night, and on Friday he started to get a rash. By Saturday afternoon he was covered in pink speckles on his tummy, arms, neck and face. Thanks to a friend's blog and Dr. Google, we realized Caleb had the roseola virus. Here is a picture of his tummy. It was hard to get a good picture of it but I think you can tell he has polka dots. =)

But still cute & happy though it all!

12 months old

Caleb's 1st birthday came at a bittersweet time in our lives. On February 16th, my youngest nephew Daniel was admitted to the pediatric ICU unit in Greenville. He was there for over a week before we officially knew he had meningitis. Daniel was a tough little boy through his 6 week hospital stay. He is quickly regaining control of his motor skills. Although the whole ordeal was extremely tough on our family, Caleb & I enjoyed spending extra time with everyone.
Caleb's one year checkup went well. He got 3 shots - chicken pox, rotovirus and Hib. They checked his iron levels which were normal.
He is:
Weight: 24lbs, .5oz (65%)
Height: 30 inches (50%)
Head: 48.2cm (90%)
  • We stayed at Grandma's for 2 weeks with Daniel's older siblings. Caleb loved playing with the big kids! One of my favorite parts of staying with my parents is enjoying their farm. They have goats, geese, ducks, turkey, chicken, guinea fowl, peacocks and a pig! The kids and I enjoyed feeding the animals each day and collecting the eggs.Grandma doesn't have a bathtub, so Caleb enjoyed baths in the kitchen sink. Plus the obligatory shower shot with Grandpa!
  • Caleb started whole milk about a week before he turned 1. He loves it and now drinks about 2 cups a day. Caleb is still nursing 4 times a day, we're not in a huge hurry to wean.
  • Grandma bought Caleb his first pair of sneakers! Just before his birthday he decided to walk everywhere and hasn't looked back. He is enjoying his new found skill and spends a lot of time exploring. Caleb is also obsessed with climbing. He can climb into our Ikea chair and sit down, very proud of himself!
  • Caleb battled lots of ear infections over the last month(s), I think he's had a total of 5 so far.
  • We have spent lots of time playing outside enjoying the Spring weather. Caleb enjoys playing in the cozy coupe - getting in & out, opening & closing the door etc. We also blow lots of bubbles and Caleb likes to help get the mail.
  • Aunt Nancy had her baby! Autumn Dawn arrived on February 9th. She is too cute and we are very excited to have little ones at the same time. (NOTE: We need a picture of them together!)
  • We had a long overdue play date with Andrea and Nathan. And then a get together with my mommy friends with about 12 babies/toddlers! Caleb always has fun playing with friends and trying out their toys. =)
(Oh, and let's just all ignore that this post is over a month late, mkay?)
